This new school is situated in Huzhou, a city rich in historical and cultural heritage. Set in more than 123 acres, the campus is at the foot of Xisaishan Mountain, next to Xifengyang Lake and adjacent to the high-speed railway station. The school is a bilingual boarding school approved by Huzhou Municipal Educational Bureau that adopts the closed-type teaching mode and the K15 bilingual educational system.  It enrols students from across China. Fully managed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Education Group, the School draws on the academic capabilities of SJTU, a top 4 university in China and integrates resources from leading global educational brands.

The school will open in September 2018 initially with students who are 15 years old. These students will do a Pre A Level Programme in their first year which will include a significant amount of English language teaching to ensure that the students are able to start A Levels in their second year.

We are seeking a highly experienced, qualified, enthusiastic and professional teacher to meet the needs of exceptionally self-motivated students. It is essential for candidates to have experience of the IGCSE and/or A Level programmes or the like.

Head of English Job Description

The Head of English is a full time post. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the English Department. Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing a strategy and curriculum for teaching the A Level students English during the pre-sessional year using a variety of programmes, including contextualised learning in tandem with a range of activities, including sports, music and the arts, drama, and "taster" courses in non-examined subjects
  • Together with the subject teachers, helping students master the specialised vocabulary during in the pre-sessional year for their examined A Level subjects 
  • Continuing with EAL teaching and support during the two core A Level years following the pre-sesssional
  • Helping Chinese subject teachers to optimise their English
  • Formulating and overseeing the delivery of English language teaching and learning throughout the lower school at all grades from kindergarten to senior high school.
  • Teaching Hours: Average 20 hours a week and late tutoring once a week till 10.0
  • Class size 25 on average and 30 maximum

Key Criteria
● Experience in an International School environment would be a distinct advantage
● Excellent communication skills and time management
● Ability to work as a part of a team and an interest in participating in the wider school community
● A minimum four year recognised teaching qualification including a Bachelor’s Degree and Post-Graduate    Teaching Diploma / University Qualification or a Bachelor of Education. Ideally, candidates should have had training and experience of teaching English as a Second Language and have worked previously in an international school. 
● A minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in a recognised educational institution preferred

Salary
The salary will be negotiable depending on the experience but will range from 440,000 – 500,000 RMB per annum.  The following will be included in the package:
Accommodation:
Huzhou Paddington Bilingual School provides modern, comfortable apartments for foreign teachers in downtown Huzhou. The school cafeteria also serves three meals daily for teaching staff who do not wish to cook at home. (Teaching Staff do not have to pay for school canteen food.)  There are three options: a single bedroom studio flat; two bedroom apartment with living room, kitchen and etc. For the two bedrooms apartment, two teachers might share unless the successful candidate is bringing his/her own family. Return Air Ticket: Teachers who have successfully completed one year service with us, are entitled to get one return flight tickets reimbursed with a limit at 15,000 yuan
Insurance: 8,000 yuan per annum. It is full coverage insurance with health, travel and accident covered, but pre-existing medical conditions and dental cover are excluded.
